Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD), which is owned by AD Ports Group, has signed a lease agreement with smart electric firm NWTN to establish an electric vehicle assembly facility.
The facility will manufacture thousands of cars annually from the industrial zone as Abu Dhabi aims to become an auto destination.
The 25,000m2 facility will be involved in manufacturing, research and development, and vehicle testing of electric vehicles.
AD Ports Group managing director and group chief executive Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi said: “Attracting electric vehicle manufacturers to Abu Dhabi will play a significant role in enabling the economic vision of Abu Dhabi.”
As per the lease agreement, initially NWTN’s operations will have an annual capacity of 5,000 to 10,0000 units of semi knocked down electric vehicles, a process that involves stripping down a vehicle at the origin partially and then having it reassembled elsewhere, reported Reuters.
Under the second phase, NWTN intends to launch several new electric vehicle models and expand annual capacity to 50,000 units.
