The Department for Transport of the UK has awarded £78.6m to Network Rail for the Oxford station and railway redevelopment.
This funding comes after granting of a Transport Works Act Order (TWAO).
Under the project, Network Rail will transform Oxford station, the railway in Oxfordshire, and the closeby road network.
The redevelopment will let the station serve more passengers, provide new services including freight, and enhance the accessibility of the station.
The project will see introduction of a new track and platform along with the current platform 4, thereby creating an island platform on the west side of the station.
A new western station entrance will be constructed adjacent to Botley Road, and will link up with the new platform through a subway, stairs and lift.

By GlobalDataPeople dwelling to the west of the station would be able to access the station in walking time through the new entrance.
The changes to the closeby road network and replacement of the Botley Road bridge include lowering the road to allow double-decker buses to pass underneath.
Furthermore, the new bridge design will feature a four-meter-wide cycle/footpath on each side.
Kier, which has been appointed earlier this year, will undertake preparatory work including the diversion of utilities.
The bridge replacement work will occur between 29 July and 6 August next year.
Rail Minister of UK Wendy Morton said: “This £161 million will truly transform the region, increasing the number of services for passengers, boosting economic growth by connecting people to new opportunities and increasing freight services between the South and Midlands.”
