Ferrovial–Acciona consortium has won a $189m (€171m) contract to construct a 31.3km section of Murcia-Almería high-speed rail line (HSL) in Spain.
Under this contract, the consortium will construct a double track section on the HSL between Lorca and Pulpí in Almería.
The project will include remodelling the stations of Puerto Lumbreras and Pulpí, and construction of a new station in Almendricos in Murcia village.
According to Ferrovial, construction works under the contract will start in the municipality of Lorca and re-use around 18.6km of the existing Lorca-Águilas route.
Lorca-Águilas rail line is an existing single Iberian non-electrified gauge track.
Around 20km of the Lorca-Águilas line will also be dismantled.

All the project-related works are expected to finish within 34 months.
The €3bn Murcia-Almería line, which will be integrated into the Mediterranean High-Speed Corridor, will be an electrified standard-gauge railway.
The line is split into seven sections, with the 31.3km Lorca-Pulpi section being the longest. About 23 viaducts, nine tunnels, and 20 structures will be built along the seven sections.
Both the companies have experience in developing high-speed railway network projects in several countries.
Ferrovial is currently involved in undergrounding the new rail access to Murcia, construction of the Pulpí-Vera trackbed, Río Tiétar-Malpartida de Plasencia section and others.
Acciona has constructed 1,200km of high-speed rail line.
