Webuild’s US subsidiary Lane Construction has been awarded a contract worth $441m for 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project in Virginia, the US.
Road operator Transurban is developing the project for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and has awarded the contract.

Under the contract, Lane Construction will be responsible for the design and construction of the 495 Next.
Work on the project involves expanding the existing I-495 Express Lanes to improve safety and reduce congestion along the I-495 in the Washington, D.C. area.
It will include extension of the existing express lanes for 4km from south of Old Dominion Drive northward to the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
This will include addition of two high occupancy travel (HOT) lanes in each direction.

By GlobalDataThe project will connect to the future I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Maryland to improve connectivity and mobility in the area.
It will also include reconstruction and expansion of the American Legion Bridge between Virginia and Maryland.
The project aims to provide more reliable, consistent and predictable travel times for commuters in and around the area.
Construction work on the project is scheduled to commence in 2022, with completion planned in 2025.

Previously, Transurban and Lane constructed 46.6km stretch of the 95 Express Lanes from Alexandria to Stafford.
They have also built 22.5km of the 495 Express Lanes from the Springfield Interchange to just north of the Dulles Toll Road.
