Carson-Newman University has broken ground on the new Drama and Ted Russell Center in Tennessee, the US.
The new facility, on North College Street and Branner Avenue, will be used as the future hub for the university’s health science programme.

The 48,000ft2 health sciences building will comprise health assessment labs, simulation labs, additional classroom space as well as general skills labs.
It will also include multiple student lounges, a covered outdoor terrace, a food service area and collaboration areas to enhance student experience.
The university president Charles A. Fowler said: “This project is a culmination of strategic planning, a deep love for our students and a shared vision of preparing the next generation of servant-leaders in healthcare.
“To have members of our community and healthcare industry come along side us in support today, is very affirming.”
The new Drama and Ted Russell Center is the first project launched as part of the university’s “Acorns to Oaks” five-year strategic plan.
The plan involves new and renovated facilities, expanded athletic offerings, alignment, new academic programmes and enrollment growth.
The university is collaborating with architect Barber McMurry Architects and construction company Johnson & Galyon Construction for planning and construction of the new facility, which is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
It also noted that the new facility will be designed to achieve a WELL Building Standard.
he university’s Nursing Department chair Lana Spence said: “While our mission to prepare caring and competent professionals has remained steadfast, the needs of our learners and the way healthcare is delivered is ever-changing.
“This new building will have the necessary resources to meet unique learning needs of our students and assist faculty to equip them with the tools necessary to meet challenges with both confidence and compassion.”
