UK-based construction and property services company Willmott Dixon has been appointed by the Stevenage Borough Council to construct a new bus interchange project, as part of the 20-year $1.3bn (£1bn) regeneration programme.
Willmott has previously built a similar bus interchange at Lincoln.
The firm will make a significant upgrade on the Stevenage’s current bus station by developing a facility with several modern features to make it an important transport hub.
The new bus interchange will feature covered waiting facilities with huge seating areas, toilets, café, and live passenger information boards in addition to improved accessibility features.
Given that the new bus interchange will be located close to the mainline station, it is expected to improve routes and connections between the railway station and town centre.
New pathways will link the bus interchange, town square and train station, thereby providing improved connections between the cycle, bus and rail networks.
