Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust has appointed BAM Construction to develop a new MRI suite, 24-bed haematology oncology ward and associated facilities.
Once the construction work is complete, the present oncology ward, Lowen Ward, will be relocated to the new unit in autumn next year.

This £30m ($41.6m) project at Treliske, Truro, is being funded through the national NHS capital funding streams.
The project will be delivered through Procure 22, the government’s capital framework for healthcare in England.
This new three-storey building will serve as an extension to the current Trelawny Wing.
The MRI suite will be linked at lower ground floor level to the Imaging Department, and is designed to accommodate up to three scanners.

By GlobalDataWork on the main construction phase of the project will begin on site soon. The initial enabling works for the construction were finished last month. The full completion of the project is scheduled for autumn next year.
Among the important partners for the project include Stride Treglown (architects), Arup (structural engineers) and Hoare Lea (mechanical & electrical providers). The peer review services were provided by BAM’s own design practice.
For this project, BAM has been engaged with Cornish-based firms such as T Clarke, WBM groundworks and Luscombes.
BAM Construction director Graham Kingdon said: “We’ve been on site conducting minor works for the Trust over the last couple of years so we have formed a good understanding and relationship with them and our partners in advance of the major works commencing. We will have to keep the hospital fully functional during this time despite the technical challenges.
“As ever, communication between us is critical to achieve exactly what the Trust needs to provide the right services for people across Cornwall into the future. I’m pleased to say that we’re local here too and it means a great deal to us to be involved.”
