Samsung Engineering has secured a $1.07bn contract from Sarawak Petchem for the construction of the Sarawak Methanol project in Malaysia.
To be constructed in Bintulu, Sarawak, eastern Malaysia, the new methanol plant will have the production capacity of 5,000 tonnes per day.

The construction contract follows the front end engineering design (FEED) awarded to the company in April last year as well as the first early work contract in November same year.
Samsung Engineering has also executed a feasibility study and a Licensor, Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (LEPCC) contract for the Sarawak Methanol project.
The company has planned to commence the construction work on the plant in late January next year with completion expected in late 2023.
The new Sarawak Methanol project will use Air Liquide’s technology.

Last month, the company has secured a $3.6bn contract for Phase II of the PEMEX Dos Bocas Refinery in Mexico.
PTI Infraestructura de Desarrollo (PTI-ID), a subsidiary of the Mexican state-owned oil company PEMEX (Petróleos Mexicanos) has awarded the contract to Samsung Engineering’s subsidiary Samsung Ingenieria Manzanillo and Asociados Constructores DBNR (AC DBNR) consortium.
Located at Dos Bocas Harbor, Tabasco State, 700km east of Mexico City, the PEMEX Dos Bocas Refinery will have the capacity to process approximately 340,000 barrels of oil per day.
