The University of Washington School of Medicine-Gonzaga University Health Partnership has broken ground on a new medical, health education and innovation centre in the US state of Washington.
The University of Washington School of Medicine-Gonzaga University Health Partnership is a collaboration between the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine and Gonzaga University (GU). It was formed in 2016 to advance the health of communities across eastern Washington via medical education and research.
Located at 840 E. Spokane Falls Blvd, in Spokane’s University District, the 90,000ft2 building will house the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine in Spokane and Gonzaga’s Department of Human Physiology.
At present, the UW School of Medicine is located in the Schoenberg Center on Gonzaga University’s campus.
Upon completion in summer 2022, the facility will be used to provide undergraduate courses in nursing and health sciences.
The new four-storey facility will comprise classrooms, an anatomy suite, research labs and administrative offices which will be utilised by 120 first- and second-year medical students, faculty, staff and over 500 undergraduate students from GU health sciences programmes.

By GlobalDataIt is situated adjacent to McKinstry’s Spokane Inland Empire Railroad (SIERR) and is designed to connect programmes and people moving between the two buildings.
In addition, both the universities have reached long-term leases to occupy approximately 60,000ft2 of space, and the remaining space will be available for lease by public and private sector tenants.
The new facility is part Health Partnership plan to expand and improve medical education to serve the increasing need for high-quality health care providers.
UW Medicine CEO and UW School of Medicine Dean Paul Ramsey said: “The UW School of Medicine has been teaching medical students throughout eastern Washington and Spokane for nearly 50 years.
“In this exciting and new world-class teaching facility students from medicine and nursing will come together for interdisciplinary training to help build the health care workforce for Spokane, eastern Washington and the region.
