Bowmer + Kirkland has been appointed by Stoke-on-Trent City Council and developers Capital&Centric for the construction of a £60m urban project in the UK.
This Good Yards project is expected to transform the industrial site next to Stoke-on-Trent’s west coast mainline train station into a bustling new urban area.
Following completion, the project will feature 174 design-led homes meant for rent, workspaces, indie bars, cafes, and shops, as well as a lot of green outdoor space for public use.
Capital&Centric’s project received the green light from the local authority in March.
Construction work is expected to begin this month and includes the demolition of some of the existing industrial buildings carrying no architectural value.
Preparatory work for the apartment blocks and restoration work of the vaulted warehouse will commence by the end of 2022.

By GlobalDataThis entire project is estimated to be completed in 2025.
It will feature The Good Yards Living, which includes 174 flats for rent in a combination of one, two and three-bed homes. This new building will feature private resident gardens and offer facilities such as a café or bike repair shop, in addition to a gym or convenience store.
The neighbourhood scheme will have a Signal Box and a café-bar that will be built in a presently derelict rail signal box.
It will feature Vaults Warehouse, a restored locally-listed, brick vaulted, below-ground warehouse that would serve as workspace and leisure venue.
As per the design, the project will boast of a canalside jetty, a 150-bed hotel, a bustling public square at the heart of the site and a contemporary building with an industrial feel that will provide 5,000ft² floor area to serve as workspace and leisure uses.
Stoke-on-Trent Council leader and councillor Abi Brown said: “The Goods Yard will transform a currently underused, canalside area into a vibrant place for living, working, and having fun. The impact will be widespread from jobs, skills, and new businesses to attracting interest and investment into our brilliant city.”
Capital&Centric co-founder Tim Heatley said: “This is a pioneering project that will act as a catalyst for yet more investment. We’ve got stacks of goodwill locally to create an amazing neighbourhood, one that becomes a real melting pot of different people, businesses and community uses.”
