Aegis Living has inaugurated its new senior living community, Aegis Living Lake Union, in Seattle, Washington, US.
Located at 1936 Eastlake Ave. E, Seattle, WA 98102, Aegis Living Lake Union is claimed to become the greenest senior living community in the world and has been designed to be completely emission-free and energy-efficient.

It includes 79 senior living apartments over 73,437ft², a wellness corridor with a balance studio, as well as a Marinaaaah Massage room for massage and spa treatments.
The living room is adjoined to the activity room that hosts a range of activities, and on the first floor, the community serves as a central hub for many of its amenities.
Designed by architecture firm Ankrom Moisan, the new community’s design is inspired by the history of Lake Union and the architecture resembles a shell house design.
The exterior of the building features a full-size mural of the rowing team from the University of Washington that won gold at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany.

Aegis Living design vice president Jeanna Korbas said: “The most exciting part of the work we do is bringing a vision to life that integrates the culture and spirit of each neighbourhood we become a part of.
“Design has the power to transport the mind while also centring each resident on familiar places and scenes that elicit fond memories and comfort.
“The Lake Union rowing culture and sustainable approach can be seen from the grand details of the murals and boat to the small design elements of water and rowing sprinkled throughout the building.”
Aegis Living has also collaborated with Powerback Rehabilitation to offer occupational, in-house physical and speech therapy.
The new community is claimed to be the first assisted living community in the world to achieve international green status with Living Building Challenge Petal Certification through the International Living Future Institute.
It leverages the captured rainwater and treated greywater for non-drinking water purposes.
Aegis Living Lake Union has an onsite solar array and offsite solar energy farms that produce 1.7 million kilowatts per hour of power to support the building’s total energy demand.
The company stated that the new building has also reduced 25% of its overall energy usage compared with the similar building type through enhanced thermal envelope features, including heat recovery through forced-air ventilation, triple pane window glazing and exterior walls thermal insulation.
The other energy reduction features include sensors for monitoring use, LED lighting, high-efficiency appliances and a recirculating heat pump system.
