The global construction industry noticed a 5.2% rise in IT hiring activity in December 2021 over the previous month, led by CDM Smith’s 22.78% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The construction industry’s overall hiring activity declined 4.55% when compared with November 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 5.79% share of the global construction industry’s hiring activity in December 2021, up 0.51% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of December 2021 were 7.49% higher when compared with the previous month.

The increase was a result of 17.33% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive construction IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 45.68% emerged as the top IT occupation in the construction hiring activity in December 2021, a 16.06% decline over the previous month. Computer Support Specialists came in second with a share of 18.79% in December 2021, up 179.93% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 17.86% share in December 2021, a growth of 90.39% over the previous month, and Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 9.56% share in December 2021 and a drop of 7.69% over November 2021.

 

Top five construction companies by recruitment activity in December 2021

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 95.92% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global construction industry during December 2021 over November 2021.

CDM Smith posted 1,945 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a rise of 341.04% over the previous month, followed by Honeywell International with 733 jobs and an 8.03% decline. Rockwell Automation with 418 IT jobs and Komatsu with 391 jobs, recorded a 4544.44% growth and a 4.83% rise, respectively, while General Electric recorded a 3.82% rise with 353 job postings during December 2021.

Regional composition of IT hiring in construction industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global construction IT hiring activity in December 2021 with a 64.25% share, which marked a 26.88% rise over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 17.34%, registering a 6.45% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 16.62% share and an 11.92% drop over November 2021.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.93% and a month-on-month rise of 43.64%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.87%, registering a 23.33% increase over the previous month.
