Skanska to construct new building for Gothenburg University, Sweden
Sweden-based Skanska was awarded an Skr1.2bn ($125.32m) contract to construct a new building for the University of Gothenburg’s science faculty department.
The contract was signed by Skanska with state-owned real estate company Akedemiska Hus.
According to the contract, Skanska will build two seven-storey buildings covering a total area of 32,000m². It will also construct an intermediate section to accommodate the atrium and meeting rooms.
Construction begins on School of Digital Arts, Manchester
The Manchester Metropolitan University announced the start of construction on its School of Digital Arts (SODA) building in the UK.
SODA is being built with a £35m investment jointly funded by Manchester Metropolitan, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the Greater Manchester Local Enterprise Partnership.
Designed by the FCBStudios, the five-storey interdisciplinary school building will be situated adjacent to the Manchester School of Art in the Benzie Building on Higher Chatham Street.

US-based Albion Residential completed its first branded high-rise rental development at 1000 Lake Street in Oak Park, Illinois.
Known as Albion Oak Park, the 19-storey apartment building features 20,000ft² usable outdoor space and an interactive, hotel-style 7,000ft² area for the general public. It also has 7,000ft² of retail area on the ground floor.
The outdoor space also includes rooftop lounge and terrace, outdoor chef’s kitchen and resort-style pool with private cabanas, as well as a wellness centre, podcast studio, pet spa and indoor dog run.
LMN Architects completes renovation of Oregon Convention Center, US
LMN Architects announced the completion of the renovation project of Portland’s Oregon Convention Center (OCC) in the US with a $40m investment.
Said to be the largest convention centre in the Pacific Northwest, OCC features updates to several public spaces in the venue.
The project included the construction of a plaza to offer flexible outdoor space to conduct events, as well as use it as a community space.
Zaha Hadid Architects-designed Leeza SOHO tower opens in China
The 45-storey Leeza SOHO tower designed by Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) opened in Beijing, China.
The project anchors the city’s new Fengtai business district, which is a financial and transport hub between the city centre and the recently opened Beijing Daxing International Airport to the south.
The 172,800m² tower offers Grade A office space for small and medium-sized businesses.
PDR Construction wins contract for Arco’s new headquarters in Hull, UK
Yorkshire-based PDR Construction secured a contract to build a new £16m headquarters for safety equipment supplier Arco at Hull’s Fruit Market in the UK.
Following the completion of this project, Arco’s headquarters will be relocated from its current location at Waverley Street to the old Hull Fruit Market Area.
The start of the construction work represents a major milestone in the £80m rejuvenation of the waterfront fruit market area.
OMA-designed KUBE opens at K11 MUSEA in Hong Kong
The KUBE multi-functional installation by Dutch architect OMA opened to the public at K11 MUSEA in Hong Kong.
The project was led by David Gianotten, Rem Koolhaas and Ken Fung, and commissioned by K11 Group founder Adrian Cheng.
OMA’s KUBE comprises a golden cube and a giant floating balloon.
Foster + Partners reveals design of Red Sea Airport in Saudi Arabia
UK-based architecture firm Foster + Partners unveiled the design for the new Red Sea Airport in Saudi Arabia.
The airport is expected to serve one million visitors by 2030.
The firm said that the airport terminal is expected to give passengers a tranquil and memorable experience during their visit.
