Central Park Tower is a mixed-use tower under construction in New York City, US. When completed in 2020, the tower will officially be the world’s tallest residential building.
Extell Development Company, a developer and real estate company based in New York, is developing the 472m-high tower in association with SMI USA (SMI), the US-based subsidiary of infrastructural investment company Shanghai Municipal Investment.
The building has been designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, an architecture firm based in Chicago. Construction commenced in 2005 and is expected to be completed in early 2020.
Central Park Tower location
Central Park Tower is being developed at West 57th Street in the Manhattan district. It is in close proximity to Central Park, a prominent park in the city.
The site starts from the 57th through to 58th Street and goes all the way to Broadway. It is situated in the midtown section of Manhattan, near the Billionaire’s Row development.
Central Park Tower design and features
Central Park Tower spans 131 storeys and features a steel and reinforced concrete structure. It has a cantilevered section to its east, a wing to the west and a seven-floor flagship Nordstrom department store covering an area of 27,870m2 at its base. The integrated package resembles a cluster of extremely thin and elongated towers stacked together.
The main core of Central Park Tower has been pushed to the sides, which provides strength and elegance to the structure. It also provides large uninterrupted spaces inside the residences and allows floor-to-height window fixtures.
The tower’s façade features a structurally‐glazed aluminium curtain wall system, satin-finished stainless steel fins and glass, while the Nordstrom store features double-curved, insulated and laminated glass units.
Central Park Tower residences and amenities details
The tower includes 179 luxury residences, including studio suites, full floor, duplex and triplex homes with two to eight bedrooms. Each residence encompasses an area ranging between 133m2 and 1,625m2.
