A planning application has been submitted to the UK’s City of London Corporation for the proposed public cultural attraction Tulip, which is to be built next to the Gherkin.

The 305.3m-high Tulip is proposed by J Safra Group and Foster + Partners, the respective owners and architects of the Gherkin.

The proposed structure is intended to serve as a visitor attraction within the City and enhance the Gherkin’s public offering.

Construction of the building could start as early as 2020 and be complete by 2025.

The building will also offer a view of London from a height of 300m. The viewing galleries will provide visitors with an engaging experience with internal glass slides, sky bridges and gondola pod rides. A sky bar and restaurants will offer 360° views of the city, thereby enhancing the visitor experience.

It will feature high-performance glass and optimised building systems to reduce energy consumption.

Zero combustion technology will provide heating and cooling to the building, while integrated photovoltaic cells will produce energy on-site.
