A planning application has been submitted to the UK’s City of London Corporation for the proposed public cultural attraction Tulip, which is to be built next to the Gherkin.
The 305.3m-high Tulip is proposed by J Safra Group and Foster + Partners, the respective owners and architects of the Gherkin.
The proposed structure is intended to serve as a visitor attraction within the City and enhance the Gherkin’s public offering.
Once built, Tulip will offer cultural and economic benefits with a varied programme of events.
An important aspect will be the education facility at the top of the tower, as it will annually provide 20,000 free spaces for London’s state school children.
This educational facility will deliver national curriculum topics using innovative tools to teach children about the city’s history.
