Swindon Borough Council has collaborated with Barratt Developments for the construction of 2,750 houses in Swindon, England.
The public-private agreement intends to extend the 250ha Wichelstowe development in the southern edge of the town of Swindon.
Swindon Borough Council strategic planning and sustainability cabinet member councillor Toby Elliott said: “This is a significant deal for the Council and for Swindon. The joint venture partnership will see us working closely over the long term with the UK’s biggest and most successful housebuilder.
“Our aim with Wichelstowe is to build a community that will be very attractive to live in, and with all the facilities nearby that people need and value.”
The project will create more than 1,000 jobs in the initial stages. Homes will be ready for residents in 2019.
Wichelstowe development’s entire outline plan was approved in 2005 and nearly 800 houses have been constructed in the east Wichel area.
