Luleå Municipality in Sweden has selected construction company Peab to carry out renovation and expansion works at Kungsfågeln High School.

The contract, valued at Skr103m ($10.6m), is set to commence this month and is expected to reach completion by June 2026.

This project includes the demolition of the existing facility, followed by rebuilding, expansion, and groundwork for the new building.

Peab region manager Susanne Hallberg said: “We feel we’re making a valuable contribution to Luleå Municipality’s ability to provide even better education in the community. I’m proud that we’re building to meet Luleå’s – and other municipalities’ – need for educational facilities with our local presence and employees for both.”

Peab plans to repurpose materials such as ceiling components, sanitary ware, and windows from the existing facility.

The project will be registered in the second quarter of 2025, the contractor said.

Luleå Municipality project manager Anna-Maria Killmey said: “Together with the high school and Peab we’re creating a modern and inspiring place for learning and development.”

Peab, with its headquarters in Förslöv on the Bjäre Peninsula in southern Sweden, has a workforce of 13,000 people.

Earlier this month, Peab received a contract to build a new 100-unit housing development in Lindvallen, Sweden.

The project includes constructing rental apartments within a two-storey building with wooden exteriors.

In February this year, Peab received a Nkr159m contract from Giske Municipality to construct the new Vigra School in Giske, Norway.

This project entails the demolition of the site’s current school buildings and the construction of a new 3,270m² educational facility.
