Nordic construction company NCC has secured five asphalt contracts with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, with a combined order value of approximately Skr250m ($24.8m).

The term of the contract spans a year and the total production volume for the contracts is 122,000 tons of asphalt, ensuring consistent output at NCC’s asphalt plants.

The contracts also cover milling and other preparatory tasks alongside asphalt laying.

NCC aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the asphalt sector.

The company has implemented various eco-friendly measures such as using wood pellets for energy and biogenic binding agents, along with incorporating reclaimed asphalt pavement in production.

Reflecting Norway’s environmental standards, all contracts signed this year by the company include a 30% environmental weighting criteria and mandate the provision of environmental product declarations.

The areas covered by these contracts are SVV Hordaland, SVV Telemark, SVV Agder, SVV Stor-Oslo, and SVV Sør-Rogaland.

NCC will begin work in early 2025, with completion expected by late 2025.

The contracts will be registered under the NCC Industry business area in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025.

NCC Industry head Grete Aspelund said: “In recent years, we have invested in upgrades and the acquisition of new equipment at several of our asphalt plants across the group and these activities will continue moving forward.

“We are a key operator in the Nordic market and our aim is to offer the best asphalt solutions in the years ahead.”

Last month, NCC won a contract to construct a new swimming centre in Karlskoga, Sweden, aiming for completion in Q1 2028.

Additionally, the company recently procured a contract to develop the Villingsberg training ground and firing range for the Swedish Fortifications Agency.
