Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) in Australia is seeking community members’ feedback on the proposed design for a new shared path bridge across Mount Ousley Road.

The design aims to provide safer and more accessible connections for pedestrians and cyclists between the University of Wollongong, TAFE precincts, and northern suburbs while accommodating tall vehicles accessing Port Kembla.

The concept design features a 4m-wide shared path for pedestrians and cyclists, incorporating a bridge over Mount Ousley Road adjacent to McMahon Street.

The design includes connections to other planned shared paths, a raised pedestrian crossing at Dumfries Avenue, and traffic-calming measures to ensure a safer road environment.

TfNSW has collaborated with Wollongong City Council and other stakeholders to ensure the design addresses safety, accessibility, and environmental considerations.

Community members can attend a drop-in session on 10 April 2025 at Bass Park to discuss the project.

All feedback will be considered as TfNSW finalises the concept design. The community will be kept informed as the project progresses.

Member for Wollongong Paul Scully said: “Today we are releasing a bridge design that balances the need to keep freight moving through our road network and community connection.

“This proposed design incorporates initial community feedback to minimise impacts to vegetation, improve connectivity to surrounding streets and enhance safety features.”

In related news, the NSW Government has approved the construction of 330 new homes within the Redmond Place housing precinct, with up to 20% dedicated to affordable housing.

State-owned property development company Landcom will partner with Orange City Council to develop the new neighbourhood, with construction set for early 2026.

Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty said: “The regions are again leading the way with this resilient new neighbourhood in the heart of the Central West which improves housing supply and meets local needs.

“As Orange continues to grow, so too must its housing options. Redmond Place will offer a mix of homes including single dwellings, duplexes, townhouses and low-rise apartments, delivering greater choice and affordability.”

Recently, the NSW Government announced reaching a significant milestone in the construction of the toll-free M12 Motorway, with 14km of the road now complete.
