Nordic construction company Peab has been awarded a Skr268m ($26.4m) contract by Vårgårda Municipality to construct a new nursing home in Vårgårda, Sweden.
Vårgårda, a municipality within Västra Götaland County, currently operates two nursing homes. However, with a demographic shift and the municipality’s expansion, the demand for nursing home places is on the rise.
The new facility, to be built adjacent to the existing Kullingshemmet nursing home, will offer 100 new apartments alongside common areas.
Peab region manager Andreas D’Arienzo said: “We’re very pleased to be able to start construction of Vårgårda’s new nursing home. This is an important step in ensuring that the municipality’s elderly residents receive the care and support they need in a safe and modern environment.
“We look forward to working with Vårgårda Municipality to deliver a facility that will be of great benefit to the residents of Vårgårda for many years to come.”
To accommodate the new structure, parts of Kullingshemmet will be demolished.
The construction process will be executed across two phases, with the entire project adhering to the Swan eco-label standards.
The partnership-based turnkey contract will see construction commence immediately, with completion set for early 2029.
The project will be registered by Peab in the first quarter of 2025.
Vårgårda Municipality project manager Anthon Borg said: “This project is a long-term investment in the well-being of our residents and the future of the municipality. By creating a modern and sustainable nursing home, we both reinforce elderly care and Vårgårda as an attractive and caring municipality to live in.
“The planning of the new home has been characterised by collaboration, where the business has contributed valuable knowledge during the planning process. We are looking forward to the new home where both residents and staff will thrive.”
Earlier this month, Peab was also awarded a Skr335m contract by the Swedish Transport Administration for the continuation of the E22 highway reconstruction in Lund.
