Nordec, a steel frame structure and facade solution supplier, has secured a contract from Nordic construction company NCC to design and construct the frame and envelope structures for a new train depot in Hagalund, Stockholm, Sweden.
The depot is being developed by Jernhusen, the property’s owner and investor, to help modernise Sweden’s rail infrastructure and improve the region’s public transportation network.
Nordec’s role in the project includes constructing a steel frame, prefabricated concrete slabs, walls, stairs, sandwich panel wall elements, and roof sheeting.
Meanwhile, NCC will be in charge of building a train hall equipped with vehicle lifts.
The current depot and track area will continue to operate during construction to minimise disruption to commuters and rail operators.
This project aims to achieve a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) Very Good certification, with a focus on material efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
The modernised depot is set to align with Sweden’s objectives for sustainable transport and reduced road traffic.
The planning phase of the construction was carried out in late 2024. Assembly work commenced shortly before Christmas, with the project’s completion targeted for December 2025.
Nordec operates across the Nordic countries and has a presence in Central and Eastern Europe, including Poland, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. The company’s expertise spans the design, manufacture, and installation of frame structures, facades, and bridges, primarily using steel.
Earlier this month, Hercules, a foundation engineering subsidiary of NCC, secured a contract for a new double-track rail line project at the Hallsberg-Stenkumla section in Sweden from infrastructure provider Infrakraft.
Additionally, in December 2024, Nordec was contracted for part of the Laakso Joint Hospital’s main building construction in Finland, which involves the manufacturing and installation of steel frames for Blocks A and B and the fitting of concrete elements provided by Lujabetoni.
