Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions is set to construct a new student housing project at the University of Texas in Austin, US, aimed at providing on-campus living for the university’s growing student population.

This development is scheduled to open in late 2027.

The new student housing project, worth $145m, will offer 1,070 new beds in a single building, replacing six older structures with only 200 beds in total. This initiative marks the first new residence hall on the campus in nearly two decades.

The preparation of the site and demolition work began in June last year, with the project team comprising general contractor Andres and architects Clark Nexsen and LEVY DYKEMA.

A mix of single and double rooms, an area housing office, community bathrooms, and various student amenities will be featured in the new facility.

Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions formally received the project last January, following its development in agreement with the 2033 Higher Education Development Foundation and a competitive solicitation process managed by Brailsford & Dunlavey.

The university will take over the management of the new housing facility upon completion.

Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions vice-president Jeffrey Tate said: “We are excited to partner with the University of Texas at Austin on this transformative project.

“This project will not only provide students with safe, affordable on-campus housing in a modern living environment, but will also contribute to the university’s broader goals of enhancing campus life and supporting academic success.”

In July 2023, Balfour Beatty Campus Solutions completed a financial closing on a public-private partnership project to build additional on-campus student accommodation at the William & Mary public research university in the US.
