Swedish construction engineering company Nordisk Bergteknik has secured its largest contract to date, valued at approximately Skr500m ($47.05m), for tunnel excavation.

The project involves the Swedish Transport Administration’s double-track expansion between Hallsberg and Degerön.

Acting as a strategic subcontractor for Infrakraft, an infrastructure company, Nordisk Bergteknik will focus on tunnel excavation for the construction of 2.4km of double track.

The contract is set to commence in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2025, with completion anticipated in 2028.

Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration, is the end customer for this execution contract.

This expansion is part of Trafikverket’s strategy to enhance rail capacity and efficiency, with the entire project scheduled for completion by 2030.

Infrakraft’s total order value for the project is approximately Skr2.7bn.

Nordisk Bergteknik CEO Andreas Christoffersson said: “We are pleased to contribute to this extensive railway infrastructure initiative, which involves several companies within the group and spans two of our core business segments. This order represents a significant milestone in our continued expansion and reinforces our role as a strategic partner in complex infrastructure projects.

“After a period of challenging market conditions, this assignment demonstrates our ability to take on large-scale projects that require expertise across multiple disciplines within our group. We look forward to playing a key role in strengthening Sweden’s rail infrastructure.”

Nordisk Bergteknik, engaged in infrastructure, mining, and construction industries, operates in two business areas: rock handling and foundation solutions.

The company manages 19 operational companies across Sweden, Norway, and Finland, employing around 1,200 people.

In November 2023, Nordisk Bergteknik also won a contract for the West Link, a transport infrastructure project in Gothenburg, West Sweden.
