Lovell Partnerships, a provider of residential construction and regeneration solutions, has been named the preferred bidder for a council house building programme for Cardiff and Vale Housing Partnership in UK.

Under this partnership, this is Cardiff Council’s second housing programme following its Cardiff Living scheme.

This project marks a step in the council’s wider efforts to address housing needs through construction of more than 4,000 new homes in the city, including a minimum of 2,800 council homes.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council’s housing strategy aligns with this vision, committing £920m ($1.16bn) to the creation of new council homes, with the aim to deliver at least 880 new homes over the next three decades.

The partnership between the authorities intends to contribute to the overall target of constructing at least 2,260 new homes in the next ten years.

The selection of Lovell Partnerships was done through a process run jointly by the Savills Housing Development & Regeneration, a real estate services provider, and Cardiff Development teams.

The new homes built by Lovell will include a significant proportion of affordable housing, with at least half designated for social rent or shared ownership schemes managed by the councils. The remaining properties will be sold on the open market.

Vale of Glamorgan Council cabinet member for public sector housing and tenant engagement, and councillor Sandra Perkes said: “The Vale of Glamorgan Council is delighted to be working in partnership with Lovell and Cardiff Council to deliver these much-needed homes.”

“This represents the latest initiative in this area, part of our extensive council house-building programme that has seen a host of developments completed over the last few years, with others on the way.

“It is vitally important work as we look to meet the soaring demand for affordable housing being experienced right across the UK. We are committed to providing modern, comfortable, accessible, energy efficient accommodation for residents on our housing waiting list, homes they can be proud of.

This development follows the recent agreement between Goldbeck UK and Cardiff Council for the construction of a new County Hall in Wales, which is part of the larger Atlantic Wharf urban regeneration project.
