American company Reader Communities has acquired a 220-acre site in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, US, for the planned development of Lake Hills, a 560-home community for adults aged 55 and over.

The resort-style project will include waterfront access to Lake Harris, nearby golf facilities at Mission Resort & Club, and pedestrian access to a planned Publix-anchored shopping centre.

Lake Hills is a collaborative effort between Reader Communities and real-estate developer Hillwood Communities while Hillwood Toll Brothers, a luxury homebuilder, will construct the homes for the community.

The development will be carried out in phases, with Reader Communities handling the infrastructure and land preparation before selling residential pods to Toll Brothers.

Located in the north-west of Orlando, the community has rolling a topography and will feature an amenity centre.

The ground-breaking for the main infrastructure at Lake Hills is set for this year, with plans for home sales to commence in 2026.

Reader Communities managing partner Jeff Reader said: “Lake Hills represents our vision of delivering best-in-class active adult living in one of Florida’s most scenic waterfront settings.

“Our partnership with Toll Brothers ensures that residents will enjoy exceptional home designs, top-tier amenities, and a vibrant community that celebrates the natural beauty of the Harris Chain of Lakes.”

Last month, Toll Brothers announced the ground-breaking of its newest community, Willis Brook at Lynnfield, located in Massachusetts, US.
