The University of Salford in the UK has chosen Kier to construct a new £40.7m ($51.3m) health building at the university.
The facility, spanning 5,550m², will house some of the university’s courses, including podiatry, prosthetics, and orthotics.
The university also plans to assess the possibility of offering mother and child health sessions, weight management clinics, and well-being support services in the new building.
Located on the A6 road adjacent to the Salford Crescent train station, the all-electric building will be constructed according to Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology Excellent and WELL Gold building standards.
The construction of the facility will utilise modern methods, including a prefabricated concrete facade system.
The clinical spaces at the facility will be designed to comply with the latest health building guidance, to help meet operational standards and adaptability for various uses.
Kier’s in-house utility team will support the site’s enabling works, which involve extensive underground services and drainage diversions to ready the site.
This development is said to be part of the university’s multimillion-pound campus connectivity plan and aligns with Salford City Council’s Crescent Salford development scheme.
Works on the building have commenced, with completion set for late 2026.
Kier Construction North & Scotland regional director Sarah Morton said: “We are thrilled to collaborate with the University of Salford on this significant project.
“With our extensive experience in the education, healthcare, and science and technology sectors, we are eager to leverage our expertise to create a cutting-edge facility that will serve the needs of students, staff, and the wider community for many years to come.”
