Veidekke, a construction and property development company, has secured a Swedish construction contract for a new residential block in Råsunda, near Stockholm, for the city of Solna’s public housing foundation, Signalisten.
The project, valued at Skr609.5m ($56m), is set to begin this month.
It will enhance local housing with 244 rental apartments, with six designed for those with special needs, alongside a modern health centre.
The design-and-build contract consists of the construction of four new buildings, which will replace the existing structures, and includes the preservation of a five-storey building.
The project will begin with groundwork and demolition in early 2025, undertaken concurrently with the design phase.
Signalisten CEO Lars Jolérus said: “We look forward to working with Veidekke to develop the Bollen block into an attractive and sustainable section of Solna. This project signals the start of an expansion phase and a high pace in residential construction.”

By GlobalDataThe residential block, known as the Bollen block, is part of a broader development initiative by Signalisten.
The new buildings will be certified according to the Miljöbyggnad Silver environmental standard, which requires low energy consumption, among other criteria.
The Bollen block is reportedly a challenging project due to factors such as high groundwater levels, the presence of a metro network beneath parts of the site, and its location in a busy area with residents, businesses, and traffic to consider.
The project is anticipated to be completed by early 2029.
Veidekke Construction Sweden’s Linus Wåhlin added: “We are looking forward to building more rental apartments in a ‘new’ Råsunda neighbourhood. Following years of slow markets, we are excited to be able to start construction of a large, high-quality rental project.”
Earlier this month, Veidekke was awarded a Nkr160m contract to build an environmentally certified city hall in Holmestrand, Norway.
