Peab has been awarded a contract valued at Nkr113m ($10m) by Lillestrøm Municipality in Norway to carry out the expansion of Skjetten Elementary School in Lillestrøm, Norway.
The development will include a 2,000m² extension and aims to meet high environmental standards.
The new two-storey extension will add eight classrooms and two rooms for afterschool activities, connecting to the existing main building through an internal passageway.
In addition to the expansion, the contract also covers minor renovations to the current school structure and enhancements to the surrounding outdoor space.
Lillestrøm Municipality has set ‘lofty’ environmental goals for the Skjetten Elementary School project.
The extension is designed to be a passive house with a green A energy label, which will incorporate solar panels and utilise district heating to ensure energy-efficient operations.

By GlobalDataThe project stipulates strict requirements for handling excavation soil and waste reduction, and mandates that the construction site operates emission-free. This will involve the use of electric construction equipment for both groundwork and developing the outdoor areas.
Scheduled to commence in early 2025, construction is expected to reach completion by mid-2026. The project will be officially registered in the first quarter of 2025.
Peab Norway district manager Håvard Dybendal said: “We’re very pleased to have received this project and want to thank Lillestrøm Municipality for their confidence in us. With the expansion of Skjetten School we continue our commitment to building good learning environments for the future. Now we’re looking forward to starting construction.”
Last month, the company secured a Skr109m contract from Staffanstorp Municipality Properties to expand Hjärupslund School in Hjärup, Scania.
The company also obtained a Skr335m contract in December last year to construct a new pump station for Eskilstuna Energi och Miljö’s wastewater treatment plant in Sweden.
