Tata Projects, an Indian engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, has reported that the construction of Micron Technology‘s semiconductor assembly and test facility in Sanand in the Indian state of Gujarat is expected to be completed by December 2025.
This facility is India’s inaugural semiconductor plant, with 60% of the project already accomplished, reported PTI.
Construction of the semiconductor facility, which covers an area of nearly 50 acres in the Sanand industrial zone, began in July last year.
Tata Projects’ project director Amit Agrawal has stated that the remaining construction is on track to conclude by year-end.
Agarwal said: “An ATMP facility is essentially a backend fab facility where testing, packaging and marking of semiconductors are carried out. This is perhaps the largest back-end semiconductor fab unit in the world. So far, 60% of work has been completed on Phase-1 with the help of a total workforce of 3,500.
“We will hand over this facility to Micron by December 2025 after finishing civil work, mechanical, electrical and plumbing work along with engineering-related tasks as per the designs given by Micron. The final call to commence the plant will be taken by Micron.”

By GlobalDataIn June 2023, the Gujarat Government and Micron, a memory and storage solutions company, signed a memorandum of understanding to establish the $2.75bn semiconductor assembly and test facility.
The project is expected to create around 5,000 direct and 15,000 indirect jobs once operational.
Tata Projects’ collaboration with Micron Technology, announced in September 2023, involves constructing a semiconductor assembly and test plant that will handle DRAM and NAND memory components.
The project utilises modern construction methods including integrated EPC delivery with 4D BIM and hybrid modular construction, and is supported by a technology platform that oversees EPC to ensure timely delivery and risk management.
The Sanand factory is being designed to conform to the LEED Gold Standards of the Green Building Council and will feature advanced water-saving technologies such as a Zero Liquid Discharge system, reflecting adherence to sustainable construction practices.
