Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, US, is set to break ground on its new 56,000ft² community centre on Saturday (25 January).

A ground-breaking ceremony will take place on the day at the Great Hall of the Sparks Center at the Wabash College Mall.

The new building, situated at the heart of the campus, is designed to serve as a central hub for community gatherings.

It will feature a main-floor dining area capable of accommodating more than 200 people, as well as flexible event spaces on the upper level for groups ranging from 12 to 250 attendees.

Additional amenities will include a game room and a living room.

Wabash College is in the final stages of securing financing for the new facility, which is set to replace the 70-year-old Sparks Center.

Demolition of the existing centre is expected to occur in early 2025, followed by the commencement of construction works.

Wabash College president Scott Feller said: “The new community centre will bring town and gown together for meetings, fundraisers, and celebrations.

“We are excited for the endless opportunities the new building will provide for our students, but it will also be the place where our students can work with and learn from our neighbours and nonprofits. By working together, we will strengthen our community in every possible way.”

In July last year, Saint Mary’s College in Indiana announced the start of construction of its new Heritage and Research Center.
