Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced the award of a Dh20.5bn ($5.58bn) contract for the Dubai Metro Blue Line project to a consortium of Turkish and Chinese companies.
The contract for the project, which includes 14 stations and spans 30km, was awarded to MAPA, LIMAK, and CRRC.
The Blue Line aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan objectives, offering sustainable transport solutions.
It promotes the 20-Minute City initiative, ensuring most services are within a 20-minute commute and supports transit-oriented development.
Dubai’s RTA board of executive directors director general, chairman Al Tayer said: “The Blue Line project of Dubai Metro is projected to yield Dh2.60 in economic, social, and environmental benefits for every dirham invested by 2040.
“The total benefits of the project are expected to exceed Dh56.5bn by 2040, driven by savings in time, fuel consumption, reduced accident-related fatalities, and lower carbon emissions.”

By GlobalDataThe line covers a mix of underground and elevated tracks, with three interchange stations and a signature station at Dubai Creek Harbour. It will also feature the first-ever Dubai Metro crossing over Dubai Creek.
It will integrate with the Red and Green Lines, connecting key urban hubs and complying with platinum-grade green building standards.
The project is expected to reduce traffic congestion by 20%, increase property values by up to 25%, and provide direct connectivity between Dubai International Airport and key areas. It will also connect Dubai Silicon Oasis, integrating all major urban centres into the metro network.
Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), the Dubai Creek Harbour station will accommodate 160,000 passengers daily, with International City (1) claimed to be the largest underground interchange station in the network.
The Blue Line will serve high-density areas and is expected to accommodate up to 320,000 passengers daily by 2040.
Construction is set to begin in April next year, with the completion and operation commencement scheduled for September 2029, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro Red Line.
This will extend Dubai’s rail network to 131km, with an increased number of stations and trains, enhancing the public transport system.
