Skanska has agreed to a contract, valued at Nkr569m ($51.2m), with WS Computing for the construction of a new hyperscale data centre in Skien municipality, Norway.

The contract will be included in the Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2024.

The agreement involves the construction of the core and shell for the new facility at Gromstul, encompassing 28,000m² across four wings and an administration wing.

Skanska’s scope of work includes building a complete steel structure, external envelope with wall cladding, windows, doors, and roof coverings. Additionally, a security fence and some outdoor work, as well as smaller technical buildings, sheds, and guard buildings, are part of the contract.

Since February, Skanska has been preparing the site with groundwork and foundations. The company is now commencing the erection of the raw building.

The initial contract for this project, signed earlier this year, was worth Nkr1.1bn. With the latest contract, the total value now stands at around Nkr1.7bn.
