Nordic construction company NCC has secured a turnkey contract in partnering form, with an order value of approximately Skr350m ($34.34m), to upgrade and extend the Heltågsverkstaden train maintenance depot in Solna, just outside Stockholm, Sweden.

This initiative is expected to increase the depot’s capacity by nearly 17%.

The Heltågsverkstaden train maintenance depot, which is part of the larger Hagalund site, was originally built in the 1990s and has since seen multiple expansions.

NCC Building Sweden head Niklas Sparw said: “Developing Hagalunds Depå is a key step in meeting the need for increased capacity in Swedish infrastructure. With this additional Heltågsverkstaden assignment, we will be able to support our client, Jernhusen, in this important project.”

The current project will involve refurbishing and extending the depot, which spans 18,000m², by an additional 3,000m².

A project is aiming for the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method In-Use sustainability certification, with the goal of achieving a Very Good rating.

The commencement of the Heltågsverkstaden project is immediate, following NCC’s previous work on Hagalund’s Västra Vagnhallen (Western Depot) in early 2024.

The project is set for completion by 2027 and will be registered under the NCC Building Sweden segment in the fourth quarter of 2024.

This September, NCC was commissioned by Ale Municipality with a Skr450m project to enhance water and wastewater infrastructure north of Gothenburg, Sweden.

The company will construct a drinking water pipeline and three pumping stations in the Älvängen, Nol, and Nödinge areas as part of the project.

The development is set to commence this month, with a completion target set for October 2026.
