Morgan Sindall Construction’s Northern Home Counties division has secured contracts for three special education needs (SEN) projects within the London Borough of Brent, UK.

The projects, collectively valued at over £6m ($8.03m), have been procured through the SCAPE framework.

Expansion works will be carried out at Newman Catholic College, Preston Park Primary School, and St Margaret Clitherow RC Primary School.

At Newman Catholic College, the construction will see the addition of a new two-storey structure housing two classrooms.

Preston Park Primary and St Margaret Clitherow RC Primary Schools are each set to receive two new classrooms within a single-storey expansion.

These developments will also include sensory areas and soft landscaping such as vegetable gardens and outdoor play spaces.

Brent Council cabinet member for Children, Young People & Schools Gwen Grahl said: “These new specialist facilities will benefit many children and young people in Brent and ensure their specific education needs are met. By providing a safe and secure learning environment built with these needs in mind, we are fulfilling our promise to give all those that will use these new services the best start in life.

“We are also excited to be working with Morgan Sindall again to assist the council in meeting its special educational needs school place requirements.”

The construction efforts align with the SCAPE framework’s objectives.

Additionally, the buildings will incorporate Morgan Sindall’s Intelligent Solutions, using Structural Insulated Panels to minimise the use of concrete and, consequently, reduce carbon emissions.

Furthermore, a portion of the build will be completed offsite, which diminishes the environmental impact as well as accelerates the construction timeline.

This announcement follows the recent completion of the £36m Prestley Wood Academy in Alconbury Weald, Huntingdon, by Morgan Sindall Construction’s Cambridgeshire division.

The new SEN school, commissioned by Cambridgeshire County Council, is part of the Alconbury Weald Education Campus.
