Work on two new affordable housing developments in East Buffalo, US, has been completed, providing 237 homes for families and older residents.
SAA|EVI was the developer for the collectively $93m projects, known as 1100 Michigan and Noles Court. The developments have replaced the former Pilgrim Village built in 1979.
The original garden-style complex was demolished to make way for the new development, which is affordable to households earning at or below 60% of the area’s median income.
These developments form part of New York governor Kathy Hochul’s $25bn five-year Housing Plan for the state.
Hochul said: “This impressive new multigenerational complex addresses the housing needs of residents in all phases of life – from families who need a quality, affordable home to raise their children, to seniors who want opportunities to live independently.
“With energy-efficient features and transportation close by, the new buildings will help residents and the entire Buffalo community thrive.”

Noles Court features 105 apartments, with 49 units dedicated to those requiring supportive services to live independently.
Catholic Charities of Buffalo will provide on-site services aimed at enhancing the emotional, mental, and physical health of residents.
The adjacent 1100 Michigan houses 132 apartments and includes a community facility space on the ground floor.
Both buildings are all-electric and aim for net-zero energy, with a forced-air heat pump system for heating and rooftop solar arrays to offset energy use.
They are designed to meet ENERGY STAR Version 3.1 + 8% and New York State Energy and Research Development Authority New Construction – Housing Program standards.
