Infrastructure engineering software solutions company Bentley Systems has announced the acquisition of Cesium, a 3D geospatial software company.
The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

This move is expected to enhance Bentley’s iTwin platform by integrating Cesium’s 3D geospatial capabilities.
Cesium’s 3D Tiles open standard is accepted across various sectors, including enterprises and governments.
The company’s software-as-a-service platform, Cesium ion, reaches more than one million active devices monthly, and its open-source software has achieved over ten million downloads.

The iTwin platform by Bentley Systems powers digital twin solutions that assist in the design, construction, and operation of global infrastructure.
The integration of Cesium’s technology with iTwin will enable developers to align 3D geospatial data with an array of other data types, including engineering, subsurface, Internet of Things, reality, and enterprise data.
This will facilitate the creation of digital twins with high-quality user experiences, ranging from infrastructure networks to detailed individual assets.

Following the acquisition, Cozzi has been appointed as Bentley’s chief platform officer.
Cozzi will oversee the development of the combined Cesium and iTwin platform offerings and will report directly to Bentley’s CTO, Julien Moutte.
