Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced that the Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) will build a multipurpose building in Vikasnagar, Shimla, India. 

The announcement was made during a meeting with senior officers of the HIMUDA. 

The proposed complex, along with solar passive features, is set to become one of the most advanced buildings in Shimla, and will be constructed on a plot of land measuring approximately two acres.  

The project carries an estimated cost of Rs1.5bn ($17.86m).  

The eco-friendly building will be used for many different purposes. It will feature government offices, a hotel, a shopping complex, and two floors for parking. 

According to the state’s press release: “The chief minister [Singh Sukhu] said that the architecture of the building will reflect the rich heritage and culture of Himachal Pradesh and will be designed to be a green and eco-friendly building along with solar passive features.”

The commencement of construction is scheduled for 1 January 2025, with a completion timeline of 18 months.  

The HIMUDA has been instructed to prepare the preliminary detailed project report promptly and to expedite the construction process to ensure the project is completed on time. 

The state government plans to achieve self-sufficiency for Himachal Pradesh by 2027 and to transform it into the wealthiest state in the country by 2032.
