Kier Construction has won a £18m contract to extend and refurbish the Templeman library at the University of Kent in the UK.
Under the project, Kier will work with architects Penoyre & Prasad to create a 5,200m², five-floor extension to the existing library, which was first opened in 1965.

The contract will also see Kier build a new climate controlled basement and refurbish internal areas of the building.
The extension to the library will house the new reading areas, collection and exhibition space, and a 250-seat lecture theatre.
Externally, Kier will construct a new lawn entrance to the south of the building and an avenue connecting the existing theatre and architecture school.
Kier Construction operations director Peter Searle said “The newly refurbished library will provide a contemporary learning environment for the many students who will learn here now, and in the future, ensuring the Templeman Library continues its enduring and pivotal role within the campus for many years to come.”
