Construction is set to begin on the initial phase of the Grønvoll quarter development in Oslo, Norway, which involves 109 apartments.

Veidekke was chosen by Nordr Norway as the design-and-build contractor for the phase.

The companies finalised the contract for the development in June this year, with the contract worth Nkr1.284bn ($120.12m), excluding VAT.

The complete development will feature a total of five buildings with underground parking, approximately 400 apartments, and several commercial spaces.

Veidekke Oslo department manager Kaare Gilhus said: “We really appreciate the confidence shown in us by awarding us this commission, as this is one of the largest housing projects starting up in Eastern Norway this year with a total of more than 400 apartments.

“We have now demolished the old buildings and are carrying out groundworks on the site. At the same time, we are already planning for the next construction stage in the project along with Nordr.”

The first stage of the development is valued at Nkr382m, excluding VAT.

It involves the construction of two eight-storey buildings, one with 46 apartments and the other with 63.

Additionally, there will be underground-level housing storage, technical rooms, and parking facilities for bicycles and cars.

One building will offer 300m² local community space spanning two floors, designed for gatherings and home office use, as well as a bicycle workshop.

The second building is set to include ground-floor commercial activities.

A communal garden with diverse plantings, multiple playgrounds, and social zones with barbecue areas will be established in the courtyard between the two buildings.

To be located near Fyrstikktorget, the development will also have shared roof terraces on four of the buildings connected by walkways.

The commencement of the first construction stage will be recorded in Veidekke’s order books for the third quarter of 2024.

The latest project comes after Veidekke secured a contract to carry out the Mariakvartalet residential project in Bjørvika, also in Norway, which includes 246 apartments.
