Consultancy and construction company Mace has been selected to take on the project management for the new Cambridge Children’s Hospital in the UK.
The hospital aims to be the first to integrate mental and physical health services for young patients and offer them uninterrupted care tailored to their specific needs.
Mace will be joining an extensive design team, including Hawkins\Brown, White Arkitekter, Ramboll, MJ Medical, and Edge, as the Cambridge Children’s Hospital moves into the technical design phase.
This follows the approval of the hospital’s first business case stage by the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England & NHS Improvement in April 2020.
In March 2022, the initial external designs of the hospital received the green light from Cambridge City Council’S planning committee.
The hospital is a collaborative effort between Cambridge University Hospitals, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, and the University of Cambridge.

By GlobalDataThe project’s approach is supported by research in child health and genomics.
The facility will include additional intensive care units, specialist wards for children in crisis, and dedicated operating theatres capable of supporting life-saving procedures.
Furthermore, the hospital will house a university research facility to foster the integration of treatments and technology, leveraging genomic medicine to treat and potentially prevent diseases.
Mace Property UK & Europe for Consult managing director Daniel Easthope said: “We are delighted to be supporting delivery of this landmark scheme. The Cambridge Children’s Hospital will be a world-leading institution and its successful development will require a combination of Mace’s global experience with our team’s local understanding.
“The opportunity it will create to support children and young people in the region is significant, providing a new model of care that will treat the person, not just the illness. We can’t wait to get started.”
Last month, Mace secured a £184m ($235.45m) contract for the expansion of The Oxford Science Park, a project majority-owned by Magdalen College, Oxford.
